Description
A new steel pedestrian bridge over the Seine is being built in Boulogne-Billancourt (Paris), providing a connection between the future Pont de Sèvres metro station and the La Seine Musicale arts center on the island of Île Seguin. The bridge rests on two abutments and a central pier. The length of the span over the Seine is no less than 118.5 m, which, in combination with its limited height, results in an average slenderness of 1:78. To absorb vibrations in the bridge, dampers are installed in various compartments spread across the bridge.
Victor Buyck is responsible for the fabrication, conservation and installation of this work of art. The bridge is manufactured in three parts and transported via water (a combination of open sea and inland waterways) from the production site in Wondelgem to the yard in Paris.
