Description
Evergem lock is in urgent need of repair. For Victor Buyck, this project focuses on the repair of the six lock gates. In a first phase, while partner De Meyer works on the neck bracket anchors, the middle doors will be taken out and brought to Victor Buyck's 'Wondelgem' site using SPMTs and a floating crane. This will allow the adjustments to the middle doors (one calendar month) before the Great Lock is blocked.
The lock will then be taken out of service and the four outer lock gates will be taken out and also brought to Victor Buyck's 'Wondelgem' site. All lock gates require adjustments (reinforcements) at the pivot points, totalling 20 tonnes, in addition to which the conservation needs to be locally updated and friction beams and rubbers replaced. Meanwhile, partner De Meyer will carry out the necessary mechanical work on the doors. In the dry lock, partner Artes Depret will adapt anchor points in the existing concrete. The six lock doors will be reinstalled in the dry lock. This phase of blockage of the big lock should last a maximum of one month.
