Description

The Canal Seine-Nord Europe (CSNE) represents much more than just a waterway infrastructure. It embodies a strong commitment by Europe, France, and the Hauts-de-France region to economic development, river navigation, and environmental protection. A major infrastructure and a powerful lever for decarbonizing freight transport, the CSNE reconciles economy and ecology by developing river transport and promoting regional economic growth.

Work on the Canal began in 2021 and will continue until its scheduled commissioning in 2030. Of the seven locks in the project, the Montmacq - Cambronne-lès-Ribécourt lock, in the Oise department, will be the first to begin construction this year. Discover the features of this engineering structure. This first lock on the route, with a drop of 6.41 metres, ensures the junction between the downstream and upstream reaches of sector 1 of Compiègne and Passel. Replacing two locks currently, it represents a time saving of half an hour, which, combined with the widening of the waterway which will allow a higher speed, will save around an hour of navigation time on this sector.
