Turning bridge Port of Zeebrugge
This new bridge will replace the smaller movable bridge in the connecting dock of Zeebrugge and will, in addition to a better connection for port traffic, also make the inner port safely accessible for cyclists.
The bridge takes into account the heavy port traffic and the bridge will be able to rotate so that ships up to 55 meters wide can already pass through, thus already at the width of the new sea lock, which will be realized in Zeebrugge in the coming years. The design of the bridge is simple: I-shaped main beams and cross beams and an orthotropic deck. The bridge is made in its entirety in our workshops in Wondelgem, and after transport with a pontoon mounted during a blockage of the port traffic. This is foreseen in the fall of 2021.
The bridge has a total length of 400 m, with fixed bridges in concrete and with a movable steel swing bridge of 130 m in length. This makes this bridge the largest movable bridge in Europe!
