Fabrication Update New Wear Footbridge
Wondelgem, Belgium - Sunderland's New Wear Footbridge is taking shape in our workshops in Wondelgem. Fabrication for all four sections, also called LIFTs, is currently ongoing. We are happy to see the progress made on the fabrication of LIFT 1 and 2 as works on these sections are nearing completion. We are preparing for the final assebmly of LIFT 3 while fabrication of the central span, LIFT 4, is picking up speed with the assembly of bottom flanges and web panels.
Once completed, the 250 m long pedestrian and cyclist bridge will span the river Wear from the ambitious urban development project in the south to Sunderland AFC's Stadium of Light in the north.
VolkerStevin is the main contractor, working for the Council of the City of Sunderland. Victor Buyck Steel Construction is supplying, fabricating and installing the steel structure of the bridge.
